I would add to Greg's comments the following;  If you do find a good shop
that can check the generator, have them check the Regulator at the same
time.  A poorly operating regulator could be either limiting the voltage
to
a lower value than designed or limiting current from the generator.  Both
are conditions caused by old age, worn contacts and fatigued springs in
the
regulator.
