Our airplane is a C converted to a D. Biggest obvious benefit is the increase in gross weight and useful load. This makes it a real two place airplane for the middle ager whose girth has expanded some. We don't have the O-200 conversion, but two coupes at our airport do. Both owners like the little extra power. Depending on how much you have to pay for the engine, and the extras and installation, I question the long term value. I'm told, but have never verified it, that an AD some years ago required altering the mag timing on O-200s, such that the power output was decreased somewhat. I would investigate if that is true, for if it is, what real power increase do you get over the C-85? However, we've only owned our plane since Jan., so I haven't seen how it flies with a load in the summer yet. I doubt it will be very impressive. Good luck with your decision.
