Darrel, It is my opinion that the Ercoupe is no more quirky or prone to
problems that any other airplane of its age. I would look at the very
same things you look at on any airplane. Again, there is nothing strange
about the plane, just people's reactions to it.

Given the choice of rudders pedals....no rudder pedals, I'll take NO
PEDALS
everytime. On thing I would check, very carefully, I the coupe has had a
conversion to pedals, MAKE SURE THE THING IS PROPERLY RIGGED BEFORE YOU
FLY
IT. I doubt that all flying currently are rigged correctly. Never owned
a
coupe that had a fork nose gear, so all I can about it is the original
design works just fine.

On formation flight,I never flew formation in an ercoupe. My formation
flying was done in Piper Cherokee 140 & 180's. There were three and on
rare occasions four of us who flew in search of the $100.00 hamburger in
formation. On take off we were in a diamond shape, I always flew Slot.
The lead was always in front of me, right and left wingman to my side and
ahead. The key to formation flying is knowing absolutly what the guy in
front, bside and behind you is going to do, that it is done exactly the
same everytime, and there is only one leader. I fly my position directly
underneath leads plane usually 4 to 5 feet below where the tail skid on
his
plane was directly at my eleven o'clock. I drew a small circle on the
windshield and it was my job to keep that tail skid in that position until
were seperated for landing
