Gee whiz, Stu.
Please avoid high alpha close to the ground.  Exploring the envelop is
best
left to the professionals, at places with long runways (like Edwards AFB, 
which has a HUGE one that I saw from many miles away).

There is a condition called "behind the power curve."  In that state, the
engine will not accellerate the aircraft.  The nose must be lowered JUST
RIGHT to reduce drag, but not hit the ground.  

I have also seen zero airspeed - during my last biannial flight review.
But that was 2500 feet above the ground, and the examiner was an old
`coupe
owner.  Just fly the Ercoupe off, then try stuff out at altitude.  Not 
to be critical, just pushing best practices.
