Since I created this list, and am paying for the server which maintains it, I suppose I should weigh in on this matter. (this is not a dictatorial opinion, just my $.25)
Coupers should be about ercoupes. It should be about owning ercoupes, flying ercoupes, maintaining ercoupes, AND socializing around ercoupes. (ex: organizing a meeting coupers at flyins, or waxing philosophical about the joys of being a couper.) I have to agree with what Al states here, coupers should not degrade to being an off topic chat forum. There are plenty of other places for that. Another to keep in mind is that that we are creating an archive of this in the form of the digest which gets sent out. I envision sometime in the near future taking all discussions from the coupers list and putting it on a web site with search capibilities etc. So perhaps as a rule of thumb, send mail to coupers if you think it's a subject which would bear being archived, or is of interest to all members. Asking Fred how his wife is doing, and cc'ing all coupers members and thus putting it into our future archives is rather silly. Sending mail to Fred directly asking how his wife is doing is being thoughtful, of both Fred, and all those who don't know Fred at all. And since this topic has been beaten to death already and really isn't about ercoupes (dang, I'm off topic! <grin>) , howsabout anyone who wants to refine the vision of what I just said take it offline and talk with me directly. We can start an email going without having to post it to coupers. -Tom p.s. as someone has suggested with regards to ICQ, we could create a realtime chat room for just pure chatten, if that interests people.
