Jeff,

No not specific to Ercoupes, but the subject is always pertinent,
especially
when folks are fueling their airplanes from 5 gal cans, etc, and airplanes
sit
out of doors.

There seems to be a propblem with completely draining all water from wing
tanks on some Ercoupes - tail high ? I have never had a problem with my
coupe
S/N 853, and when refinishing drained the tanks dry - no liquids left in
the
tanks, so it appears I can get all liquid -water or gas out of my tanks.

But, every spring we seem to have a rash of failures attributed to water.
The
copy of my letter to Skip Carden was a result of a crash and destruction
of a
coupe that was found to be caused by water in the fuel system. The
airplane
had been flown a couple times that day, as I remember, and engine stopped
after several short trips. This stimulated me to write about really
checking
before every flight - not just the first of the day, because if there is
excessive water in the system (there is always some water in fuel systems
due
to ccondensation), then the gascolator could become full, and pass water
to
the carburetter- stopping the engine. Apparently this is what happened in
the
mentioned flight and crash.

Hope this relieves your concern - but always be concerned about water in
any
airplane. You can't pull over to the side of the road when the engine
quits.

Fly Safe - Have Fun !
