Don:

The useful load is dependant on the empty weight of the aircraft and
varies
between aircraft depending on equipment installed, etc. To accurately
determine the empty weight the aircraft has to be properly weighed.
Mechanics will most often add and subtract equipment installed or removed
and recalculate the empty weight and C.G. location without reweighing the
airplane. Looking at the current weight and balance data for my airplane
lists the Gross Weight at 1450#, Empty Weight: 944.65# and Useful Load:
505.35#. Incidentally, the Type Certificate Data Sheet provides other
useful information such as engine limits, airspeed limits, maximum
baggage,
fuel capacity, control surface movements, authorized engine and propeller
combinations, etc. It is a must have reference for any airplane owner. By
the way, A-718 covers the 4-15-C and 415-CD. A-787 covers the 4-15-D,E,G,
F-1, F-1A, A-2, A2-A and M10.
