As a Director of the club, my advice is to be very very cautious in
dealing
with Skip Carden. If he gets any inclination that you may become more
popular
or powerful than he, you'll be boycotted. When I took over as Director of
Region 11, I was warned of this by MANY people from throughout the
country. It
started when Skip called me to tell me I was elected. He HAD to mention
that
there was never another election where so many folks participated. The
prophets were right! Communication was drastically cut off, people were
told
that I was never available and you didn't see a damn thing about the
fly-in we
had in 1997 that drew more Ercoupes than the previous two national
conventions. I even sent pictures and letters from local officials, etc.
thanking us for bringing the event to the community.

If you want to truly advance the Ercoupe, take a tip from the Luscombe
Foundation. They did it right without the type club's involvement. Heck,
the
type club begged to get in bed with them a few years back. Sorry to sound
so
pissy, but I have a lot of ideas, made a bunch of promises to the folks
out
here, made lots of headway and got the wind knocked out of my sails very
quickly. If there comes a time when a bunch of folks want to do it right,
without a profiteer at the helm, call me, I'll be there with both time and
money. (And if you do call me, all you need to do is leave a message and
I'll
call back. My number is in the latest Capers.) As I feel now, I'll not
run
for Director again, nor renew my membership or support the organization
unless
some drastic changes are made.
