There should be two lines from your "pitot" tube.  One is for ram air, one
for
static air.  Look around the circumference of the tube and you'll see
holes.
That's your static source.  Many Ercoupe owners use static from the
cockpit,
but check and see that there are no leaks anywhere.  A good way (probably
not
recommended) is to disconnect the pitot, then static at the panel and
tube,
then gently blow some cigar smoke, checking for leaks in the wings and the
belly, finally up to the panel.  You can also stick a golf tee in one end,
and
try to blow (not with compressed air) some air through.  If you can,
you've got
a leak.  If you can't then the line is sound, but check for kinks.  A
common
place that they are loose is under the wing strip.  Usually a clamp
loosens, so
check that point carefully.
