Jerry:

Congratulations on your new Coupe. I had a nose wheel shimmy problem in
Forney Aircoupe shortly after I bought it. I ordered a bushing kit from
Skyport for about $25.00. After the new bushings and bolts were installed
the shimmy went away. It is a rather simple and inexpensive fix. As I
recall there are three or four sets of bushings in the scissors part of
the
nose gear. One would think that with a new dual fork you wouldn't have
that problem but the scissors may be the problem. Did they install a new
scissors with the dual fork? If so, the problem may be somewhere else.
Skyport Services are good folks to do business with. You can reach them
at
1-800-624-5312. Ask for Lee. He will be happy to answer your questions
and
may be able to provide some insight to the problem.

As for the airspeed problem. Could be your ASI static is venting into the
cockpit. Though I will have to admit I have never located an external
static port on my Forney, except on the pitot head itself. Perhaps
someone
in Coupe land has an answer to that one. I suppose a leak could be the
culprit.

> My buddy, Jerry Isbell and I bought our airplane on Fri., 1/16. It's a
'46, converted to a D model. We did a thorough annual on it before
purchase, got a couple of surprises, but what else is new.
> The prior owner had got stuck by weather in La Grange, GA, and we bought
it down there. Jerry I. made it back as far as Knoxville this weekend,
heading for Columbus, Ohio. Then the weather crapped out, so we'll get it
the rest of the way home sometime soon.
> Jerry now is a Coupe pilot, and I still have to see it, let alone fly
it.
It's a little different from the G-IV and Hawker that he flies
professionally, but that's what it's all about.
> Talking to my buddy, everything went pretty much as expected, except
that
our brand new dual nose fork has a nose wheel shimmy right after landing.
Adding a small amount of steering input seems to make it go away. There's
no shimmy on takeoff.
> Anyone know anything about this, and the remedy? The old dual fork was
found bent during the annual we did, so we replaced it with a new one.
The
motor mount and associated mounting hardware all checked out fine - they
just needed to replace the fork.
> Also, the static system seems to have a leak, as the airspeed drops
about
20 mph when the canopy is closed up tight. Are there any typical places
that leaks develop? Maybe it's in our encoder, as we still have to get
the
transponder certified, since it's now out of date.
> We're both looking forward to flying our new toy, once we get it here.
Thanks for any input. Jerry Eichenberger, Columbus, Ohio
