I love the NC numbers.  If the a/c still has the originally issued number, you're permitted to display and communicate with it!  Your registration, on the other hand, will not show it.  Many of the beloved coupes in barns that the FAA hasn't seen any activity on (including filling out the questionnaire some years ago) have had their NC #'s reassigned.  That's too bad, you'll never get them back!

Just wondering,,, how many of you have the "NC" numbers still on your flying
aircraft? I've seen a few restored Stearmans with the giant "NC****" on the
tail or wing. Keep in mind these have been repainted and the NC was put back
on. Whats the skinny on this?? I'm sure it's spelled out in the FARs  I don't
have an FAR/AIM book handy. Anyone know??
