Brian,

Thanks for the kind words about the site. Everyone is free to link to my
website or publish its address. My layout and design are simple as can be,
but I've got some content, there. Some of those articles took 20 or 40
hours
to research, write, and get reviewed and I'd like for the people who need
the information to get it.

As for liability on the websites, I think it follows normal journalistic
liability.

If I buy a book on how to wire my house and burn down the house, I bet I
couldn't collect a dime from the author, even if I could show willful
negligence.

If I, as a computer professional, tell a client how to do something and
make
a serious mistake, I might be held liable. But if I, as your buddy, tell
you something about computers and you do some damage, I don't think you
can't get a dime from me (unless you can show I hurt you deliberately).

If I, as an aviation amateur, make a website with scans of engineering
drawings of a 55 year old aircraft, I only need to worry about the
copyright
on the drawings, but not the content. If someone tries to fabricate
something and gets it wrong, they have to sue ERCO's memory, all I've done
is act as a reporter or as a friend helping a friend. I don't think they
could even sue Univair now, with the new aircraft liability law in place.
If I had the resources to do it, I'd post those old engineering drawings
on
my site in a heartbeat and not lose a moment's sleep.

The articles I have on my website took a lot of work. For the annual
inspection one, I sent questionnaires out to five respected Coupe A&P/AI
mechanics. (This was when I was editing Coupe Capers.) Three gave good
responses. I combined their suggestions and sent the result to them for
review then incorporated their comments into the final copy. Yet I can't
guarantee that the checklist includes __everything__ that's needed for a
perfect annual inspection. I do think it's better than anything else I've
ever found. But as a friend helping a friend, especially since I'm not an
aviation professional myself, I think I'm safe from liability suits even
without a disclaimer. I just threw in the disclaimer to nail that down
firmly.

There IS no "official" source we can turn to, so all we can do is to help
each other as much as we can.

Hi Ed,
Reading your e-mail prompted me to visit your site. Very nice job! I admit
I
don't have time to read all the Ercoupe mail list, but I try. It took me a
while to get the last batch of photo's posted "sorry folks". Have you had
your site up for a while? I don't know how I missed adding your site to
mine, but I do apologize. With your permission I will add it now. We have
all talked about coordinating our web efforts, but as you will soon see
these sites take on a life of there own. Never the less I think it will
happen just by the nature of the web. I think it's sad but smart having a
waver at the top of your page, and I guess I should add one also. God
forbid
some should misconstrue an opinion for fact and hurt themselves. I am
sitting on about 600 meg of 1940 engineering drawings, all that I hand
imported into pdf's. I'm afraid to post on them on the web, but there
invaluable when you want to carve up a glove box out of cardboard or
something. Is the waver the answer or could we be held liable for someone
not following the rules and using a knowledgeable A&P to do the research
and
work. I digress.
At any rate, Nice site and thanks for the additional knowledge base on the
web.

By the way folks, were you at the 2000 EOC Convention, and did you get
your
photo taken by Harry Francis. If so, try to find your self on the
Convention
pages and send me some text for under the photos.
