I found the corrosion is working from the inside out, not from the outside in. My coupes were 1946's. I think they made most of the spar caps in 1946 and used them in the 47's 48's and 49's. I think most of the later coupes where made from parts from 1946. As I stated before we took apart spars that looked good from the outside and found a lot of corrosion on the inside working out. I think when you see the small bumps on the spar caps, the corrosion is working it's way out, not in. I think all the older spar caps are bad and should be replaced while we can still get the parts. This looking at them all the time till the corrosion shows, rocking the wings, not flying in turbulant weather is not the way to go. If the cost is to much maybe get a partner. That way two people get to fly a great safe airplane.
