I have been watching the threads on
metal wings, while there are pros and cons on any subject I am sure some would
want to metalize if cost effective. Here is what I have come up
with.
First let me tell you a little about
my metal work. I did a fleet of Beech 18 flight controls for a Part 135 airline
here in Arkansas. They have or had at that time 17 Beech 18s. They have since
replaced them with Caravans. Bad for me, but very good for their operation.With
the pilots they had I was kept in work almost continuously on repairs after
making the change from fabric controls to metal controls.
Now here is what I have figured
out.
The total cost would be $ 6,756.00.
That is $ 1,234.00 for materials for the covering. Misc. material (ie metal
etch,(alumiprep) alodine, and primer), cleaner before all other takes place, and
misc. hardware. $ 200.00.Total materials
$ 1,434.00. Since shipping of the
wings would be kind of expensive the $ 756.00 would be knocked off for shipping
charges. If the airplane is within 400 miles of Mena, AR. I will pick up and
deliver, but then the $ 756.00 would still apply to the total bill. So any wings
shipped in would cost
$ 6,000.00 to cover, and if I
pick up and deliver it would be
$ 6,756.00 to cover.
If there is any additional
work ( such as more than surface corrosion to clean) it would be done at
the rate of $ 28.00
per hour. You would then
have all ADs and SBs complied with, plus the inside of you wings primed to
help do away with future corrosion. Any additional work would be authorized by
you by telephone or e-mail before doing the work.
You will have FAA form 337 filled out
and have your copy for your aircraft records.
I am sure you would be well satisfied
with the work. Terms would be 50% with the incoming shipment and the
balance upon completion.
