Many, many of the old O-2's, if not in CAP service, are used as engine test beds by various manufacturers. It's one of the best way to test an engine you don't totally trust in actual flight service, without it being the ONLY engine or the only engine on one side of the plane. Also, you can fly okay if the engine in one end or the other of a Skyblaster is different than the one at the other end. They stuff all kinds of engine monitoring instruments in the back of the plane, sometimes. Pretty fascinating.
