I agree completely. The Coupe is dangerous, it can't be landed in a cross wind, if it get's too slow it will make a smoking hole in the ground, The wings fall off, Another one catches fire every other day. Glides like a brick----------- If it weren't such a terrible plane, I wouldn't be able to afford mine. <G> When I was shopping for an economical plane, I was shopping primarily for an Aeronca 7AC. I discovered the price to be way out of line for what you got. I can remember x-countries in my old 7AC watching cars pass me on the road below. <G> Here we have the deadly Ercoupe with a decent x-country range and speed, with electrical system, with more shoulder room than a 150, light and responsive on the controls, available at a price I can afford. ANY airplane will kill you if you get too slow. Some will do so with almost NO warning. LOTS of airplanes have a high sink rate. I bet if the Coupe had been marketed as a sporty responsive personal airplane that took special skill to master, and would bite the unwary, It would be sought after today. <G> After all look at the current crop of pilots that trained on tricycle gear aircraft who now seek a conventional gear airplane. After all if you can fly a "tail dragger" (I hate that term <G>) you are a "real" pilot. Maybe with a bit morer badd press I can afford a second Coupe.
