OK.. I must step in- !!! The video that everyone is talking about is a 747 landing at Japan International. Widely considered by pilots as one of the most difficult airports to land due to the position of mountains and ocean so close to the runway. The video shows one of the jumbos getting blown off center in a sudden microburst, take a look at the EXCELLENT correction and the incredible timing in getting the airliner down. NO- the 747s wheels do not caster or pivot like a B-52. Which would be useless in the gust the jumbo experienced, there would be no time to displace the wheels in time for touchdown.. -----Original Message----- From: Percy Wood [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, September 07, 2001 12:43 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [COUPERS] 747? ----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- At 03:19 AM 9/7/01 -0700, you wrote: >I hate to feel stupid! >but! >all of the sudden everybody is talking about this 747 thing, Yo, Wayne. And others. The 747 thing was a video clip attached to a post on the Coupers mailing list. It showed a 747 doing an S turn to final and planting it on the runway with a cloud of smoke. Good piloting, if you discount the fact that one should be well-established on final by that time.
