Well, now, I guess I enjoy the fun and joking a lot. I've enjoyed most
of the unappreciated threads we've had here and I am NOT planning to
leave this list. I LIKE socializing with you all.

But, when time is short, at a fly-in or here, I sometimes want to spend
that scarce resource wisely. My wife, job and four year old daughter
take up LOTS of my time. I'm stealing time from something else that
needs to be done to write this.

Imagine, at a fly-in, that you need to ask a question of the
knowledgeable people for something critical to you and your safety. Or
that you've found someone who knows how to do something you've always
wanted to do. Then, as you try to hold the serious discussion, the
joking group comes over to join you. Then, because that's the nature of
conversation, there are two or three joking statements inserted between
every statement of your serious conversation.

There's no blame associated with this situation. Everybody is just doing
what they most want and are not willingly hurting others.

Yeah, sometimes we have to. But, if I take my technical conversation
off to the side of the hangar for a serious discussion, I trust the
joking group will continue to enjoy themselves. I'll be back to join you
having fun, too.

For this reason, I see only benefit in having a general, open list which
may include technical discussion, social stuff, travelogues, events,
jokes and spoofs -- such as this one. At the same time, I see value in
having a serious subject only list because I don't want to miss any of
the serious subject discussions.

Sometimes, here, the message load becomes overwhelming given my limited
time. Then I just have to delete a hundred or two hundred messages to
get caught up. And then I miss all the technical stuff which was mixed
in the soup.

For this reason, I think I'll happily stay in both lists. I'll do this
knowing that, sometimes, I may have to dump all the back log on the fun
side to keep from being buried. <sigh> I sure wish there were more hours
in a day.
