Got my first taste of real winter Ercoupe performance
on Saturday. I pulled on my Snoopy hat and my G2,
slipped on the leather gloves and went flying at 38F.

After takeoff, at around 500 AGL, I often look back at
the runway, just to see if anyone is on my tail and (more)
to see if I'm anything like lined up properly.

Usually, the departure end of the 2550' runway's numbers come
up just under the vertical fins at this point.

This time, with only about a five-knot headwind, the numbers
were RIGHT UNDER ME!

Wow. I was so stunned I didn't even think to look at the
VSI.

After about an hour, my hands and legs were cold enough
that it was either close the canopy, or call it a day. I called
it a day.
