Glen, I too park my 415C outside with stits. The man-made products do very well outside. However, the stits fabric is not your worry. Ray Stits boasts that the dacron will outlast the aluminum airplane, and I believe that this is true. The weak link when parking outside becomes the dope finish. Dope finishes must retain their plasticity so they can flex with the fabric. Mine is a nice fire engine red, but after 5+ years it is becoming faded. I am waxing the dope about every other month, and this seems to work.
Look for spots that develop cracks in the paint. I dont have many, but I think that if the red goes bad I'll just repaint the top. The silver undercoat usually holds up. I'll trade the $250 a month on a hangar for a one-time $125 can of red stits paint. Another problem area outside (or inside) is the drain grommets. If they get blocked then the wing cant breathe or drain. Is your wing interior chromated??? If it's bare aluminum then that's a contributing factor also. hope this helps, jan zanutto N87204 __________________________________________________________________________ ______ To unsubscribe from this list please send mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] _____________________________________________________________ Want to find the best email lists?
