It is difficult to know how basic a book you want. The owners manual for
any
airplane that you might fly will tell you all that any manufacturer thinks

you need to know.

I would tell you to go here; http://www.sacskyranch.com/ and get their
engineering manual which will tell you more than 90% of the pilots that
you
meet know about their engines. The book is entirely understandable and
will
teach you about things that you didn't know you needed to know.

The light plane maintenance magazine and book series is well written and
well worth the money when you have a plane to take care of. I would
recommend them even if my I/A were not one of their editors.
