Harry; Yes, I had hoped to meet you too, unfortunately, I had other commitments. You are right about the fuel line size. Too large a line can also cause a problem. Years ago, my father bought a J-4 Cub at a reduced price because the owner had problems with the engine quitting on take off.
The problem turned out to be a fuel line that was too large, coupled with a gascolator that was vented. When the aircraft was rotated on take off to the climb attitude, the fuel in the large line actually pulled fuel away from the carburetor. Reducing the size of the line, and capping the gascolator vent fixed the problem.
