--For the Coupe folks - This is Sun N Fun related, even with the Cherokee info - so don't beat me up. As EAA/AOPA member @$15.00/day...on a daily basis. I think that as long as you pilot license have a dead presidents picture on the front then you can enter. Several items: 1 - I've got the complete K2U kits. This gives handling and some cruse. But it is mostly handling. I wish that there was a better gap seal for the coupe than duct tape. The coupe sure could use these. 2 - Clean airframe. There's not a screw head facing the wrong way. If it could be flush mounted or counter sunk it was. All antennas where removed, except com. Very clean lines. 3 - Rigging. You don't realize how much you can loose from a badly rigged plane. It needs to be perfect. (You should also consider the prop as part of the rigging. If it is nicked or out of balance it will cost you. My prop is turning about .75 mach at the tips, perfection is required.). 4 - Bunches of little things. Take care of the pennies and the dollars will take care of their self. 5 - Got the wife up a 4:00 am to wash the plane before the race. She's the pilot for next year, so I got to do the 4:00 am wash. >I have lots of time in Chreokees...never saw one so fast....sounds like a 180 arrow...! The race started from a stand still, then four 90+ degree turns. So the actual cruse speed is higher, usually around 153. We did 166 from OSH last year. We have several 180's here and can take them all. Just got to do the fine tunings. I couldn't find anyone that could tell me where to go. The plane flew down Sat and we drove. All the help I got was to go over and buy another pass for some other part. I'm a poor boy, if it's good enough for Henry Ford it's good enough for Bill Piper. I use auto fuel. I drop about 10 gal of 100LL in a couple of times per year for lead. I ran straight 100LL for two months and fowled the plugs. There is a concern for Vapor lock, however that can be prevented if handled correctly. >When/where is the Tennessee Coupe Fly in . If my coupe is not >ready, I may try to drive in... The Smoky Mountain Fly-In is in Athens TN, MMI. That's McMinn County, not McMinnville. It is between Knox and Chat. I think it is October 21, Sat. Perfect time of the year. Great weather and the colors in the mountains are perfect. Had a great turn out last year and hope for better this year. We hope to have something here this year, but our new airport management is about like Sun N Fun. Used a lot of the info you've put out to get this stuff going. Still got a lot to learn, but I'm "Thirsty for Knowledge". So keep the stuff coming.
