Greg, For what its worth, I have found rubber snakes to work the best with birds. I have an open hanger with some support rafters above the left wing. As if this isn't bad enough, there is a mulberry tree just outside the hanger. That shit stains almost instantly. I nailed two snakes up on the rafter, leaving both ends to drap over and wiggle in the wind. Has worked great. I put a plastic owl with swiviling head next to the plane, but the birds just avoid sitting on its head. Another snake on the cowling has effectively kept the birds off the propeller and away from the cowling openings (which I still plug, but the plugs blow out from time to time). The only problem is the snake blows off the cowling sometimes. The neighbor's dog ate several. A snake fitted with an internal (coathanger) wire support, which is then wrapped around the propeller with the snake's head up, and subject to movement by the wind might do the trick. Since the propeller could be left vertical or partially horizonal, the birds would not get used to it. I got one snake at Wal-mart, two little ones at a party supply shop, and one larger one at a farm implement store.
My efforts, including the owl, have not stopped the bombers.
