I had a 27 foot sailboat that I could anchor out and make dinner surrounded by the lights of San Francisco Bay. The perfect acceptability of a glass of wine and the availability of various, um, facilities on board made for a date that had a few points that a night flight didn't have. Night sailing was a lot like night flying in the sense that lights could be deceptive and confusing.
