Dick; I too highly recommend prop guard. I put it on the Bonanza first, and saw how well it works, so I put it on the Coupe prop when it was fresh out of overhaul. After over 90 hours, the prop still looks like new. You can see a few places where the prop guard had been marked, just like you said, but the stuff really works.
