I agree with everything that you said, except maybe for the comparison of
the 
Coupe's glide ratio to other airplanes.  I think the best thing to do when

you have an engine failure is indeed to look right underneath the wings
for a 
place that you KNOW that you can make it to.  In South Carolina, that's 
probably easier than in some states.  Most of SC is blessed with wonderful

farmers who regularly maintain their "emergency landing strips".

I have to say though, that the 1981 Cessna 172 that I used to own seemed
to 
have a MUCH better glide ratio than my Alon does. In the 172, I could go 
somewhere with the power all the way back.  In the Alon, I can't go
anywhere 
with the power all the way back.  It comes down pretty quickly compared to

the 172.  I imagine other, heavier, higher performance planes probably
don't 
glide as well as the 172 either.
