Being the Guru of Plastics, as far as this list is concerned, let me tell
you this
about that. Plexiglas (Acrylic) is indeed good material. Lexan is
better. Much
better. My Coupe had a new Plexiglas bubble windshield installed prior to
purchasing her. Someone climbed in, and put his hand on the upper edge of
the
shield for support, and it now has a palm sized curved crack in it. I
haven't
replaced it yet, but I will have to. To get the same crack in Lexan, you
would have
to have an Elephant put all it's weight in the same place, and then have
it jump.
Talk about bullet proof. Now the down side. Acrylic is fully UV
resistant. In
other words, it won't weather check or turn yellow. Lexan can be treated
for UV
protection, and quite frankly, for this application it should be. Both
materials
can be cast rather than extruded, and if they are, optical clarity should
be very
good in both. After all, most safety glasses are made of lexan. If you
nick the
edge of the acrylic while installing, the crack could go to the other side
before it
stops. Lexan, you can't crack it. Yes, the Lexan is softer. All this
means is
that you clean it with Mirror Glaze. That keeps it scratch proof and
clear. I
keep my canopy cover on at all times while not moving. I'll absolutely
pay the
extra and get the Lexan.
