With the full span ailerons the Coupe is a natural for flaperons. With them down you have all the benefits of flaps, high lift and drag. With them in the reflexed position (raised above the normal trailing position) you reduce lift and drag and increase speed. High performance sailplanes have been using them for years to get higher speeds between thermals. Most of the more recent Maules also have them. Back in the hay days of cross country air races it was a common trick to rig the ailerons about 5-7 degrees up to get that little extra bit of speed to give them an edge over the competition. I suspect that like any modification be it droop tips or flaperons it is only a matter of a few tens of thousands of dollars to get approved. It's a real pity the dear old FAA makes it so difficult to make improvements as technology and understanding of aerodynamics improves. Dave
