Here's a puzzler. I have a newly rebuilt C-85 with the Stromberg
NAS-3A1 carburetor. The engine starts immediately and idles perfectly,
but it runs extremely rough beginning at about 1100 rpm. If we
continuously shoot fuel into the engine by using the primer, the engine
smoothes out and the rpm picks up. We are able to maintain smooth rpm
in the plus-2000 range using this method. Mag timing is good and the
mag points are new, as are the spark plugs. Carb heat has no effect on
the roughness; neither does the mixture control.

Here's what my mechanic and I have done thus far:

Removed, disassembled and thoroughly cleaned the carburetor, and
reassembled it using new gaskets, seals, etc.

Checked the float level

Checked the tightness of all the intake hoses, and checked for a cracked
or warped intake spider

Cleaned the fuel lines and refilled the tanks with fresh 100LL avgas

Checked engine compression (80/80 on all cylinders)

It should be noted that before the engine rebuild, I never experienced
any problems with rough running, at any speed.

Any ideas???

Thanks!
