John, Ever try to fill a Cast Iron bathtub with hot water? In the winter
the cooled tub sucks the heat from the water. Causing cooler water. The
air
flow over the front cylinders causes the Cylinders to cool pulling heat
from
the exhaust gases. Also the air flowing back to the rear cyl. is pre
heated
by the front cyl. Now I am not an engineer and I also know this all
happens
very fast so I'll not try to give numbers. But common sense would tell us
than if it was an eight cylinder the rear would be even warmer. {being
that
three cylinder would preheat the air even more.}
