I don't know about you but it makes my little heart warm to know these morons are the ones who try to tell us what is safe and what isn't makes you feel much better knowing that a given part is certified by the FAA doesn't it. Dave ARE CONTROL CABLES CRITICAL COMPONENTS? The FAA issued an Unapproved Parts Notification (UPN) last month to alert the aviation industry that a manufacturer has been producing and selling cable that was not subjected to required testing. The cable, formally known as bulk wire rope, is used in aviation to fashion linkages from the cockpit to control surfaces and to engine/propeller controls. But, at least according to what the FAA told the New York Times, the agency does not believe that the cables serve a "critical" function. The Times reported that the FAA, "...believed that because pilots could continue flying the plane if a cable broke, it was not a crucial part." Riiight.
