John, I don't see the problem.  Move to Saudi Arabia.  I understand they don't have any taxes there.....of course, I also understand they don't make any money.  But, none the less, you should enjoy it more as you won't be paying taxes.  By the way, while I'm no expert in this field, I also understand that in today's "civilized" world, there are very few countries that have a lower tax burden than we have in the good old USA.  I'm surprised that having traveled outside of the US, you didn't gain a real sense of how good we really do have it here.

LARRY,   YOU DON'T GET THE POINT. EVERYONE OUT THERE IS PAYING TAXES TO SUPPORT A ZILLION GOVERNMENT AGENCIES. ALL OUR TAX MONEY DOES NOT GO TO THE FAA ALONE. THEIR (OUR) TAX DOLLARS ARE WASTED, SIFTED THROUGH BUREAUCRATS; AND THE RETURN ON THEIR (OUR) MONEY IS DANG PITIFUL.  I'M FOR FREE ENTERPRISE.   JOHN

Just my point John, everyone out there is working until May to pay the taxes that support your flying.  Thank them, for they know not what they do.  If we had to support our habit on our own, we'd be working until mid December to pay the tab.

LARRY,   I MUST RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE WITH YOU. THE LAST TIME I CHECKED I WORKED UNTIL MID-MAY TO PAY TAXES TO THE GOVERNMENT, SO THE FAA IS NOT FREE. AS WELL, I DON'T HAVE A "BIG BROTHER" AND DON'T WANT ONE ESPECIALLY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. BEING A DISABLED VIETNAM WAR VETERAN I HAVE TO DEPEND ON THE "BIG GOVERNMENT" VETERAN'S ADMINISTRATION WHICH IS AS HIGH QUALITY A ZOO AS THE FAA IS.  FINALLY, IF I NEED "PROTECTION FROM MYSELF" I DANG SURE DON'T NEED OR WANT BILL CLINTON, AL GORE AND COMPANY DOING THE PROTECTING.     JOHN

 Coupers,

It seems that it is becoming fashionable to bash the FAA.  Perhaps
we should all take a long hard look at what the aviation world would be
without them.  And, more importantly, what's the value of the services
they provide to each of us?  We in the private sector are given
virtually free, untold services, free for the taking.  We land and take
off at airports for free.  We have the free use of the world's finest
navigational aids.  And, we have a big brother looking over our shoulder
to help keep us accident free in spite of ourselves.  No, they aren't
perfect.  And, yes there are those within that organization that have
been caught up in their own importance.  But, we couldn't do it alone.
Our only beef is that we have an organization that is trying to protect
us against ourselves.  Yes, I'd like to be able to do more on the
Coupe.  But, the excuse that the Coupe's are 50 some odd year old
planes, therefore we should be able to fix them, doesn't hold water.  If
we should be able to fix ours, anyone should be able to fix any other
plane.  The reason the builder of a kit plane can do all the work,
including annual inspections, is because he is the manufacturer of
record.  No one of this list can boast of that type of involvement in
the manufacture of an Ercoupe.  Perhaps we have changed wings, or other
such labor, but we didn't build the wing to begin with.
