I never thought about the edge of the cover rubbing on the fabric. I talked to an IA and he thought it would be all right. Maybe he was seeing a wing recovery job in the near future if I placed them on the inside.
I was reading thru my old Coupe Capers and John Wright had a short note in the Feb 1995 issue that said the following: "I have developed a way to attach reinforcement plates to cloth wings with a special glue that will not ruin paint". I am trying to contact him to check a little further on this. It's been a long time since studying this, and I'm certain to be corrected, but without the plastic of the ring on the outside, you'd be in jeopardy of having the cover cut the fabric. The ring and cover could then depart the aircraft in flight. You'd soon get a whole new meaning for the swiss cheese AD.
