I never thought about the edge of the cover rubbing on the fabric.
I talked to an IA and he thought it would be all right. Maybe he was
seeing a wing recovery job in the near future if I placed them on the 
inside.

I was reading thru my old Coupe Capers and John Wright had a
short note in the Feb 1995 issue that said the following: "I have 
developed a way to attach reinforcement plates to cloth wings 
with a special glue that will not ruin paint". I am trying to contact 
him to check a little further on this.
