I may be able to add something to this topic for the Mooney M-10 Cadet. A
significant number of those planes are registered "N95xxV". Furthermore,
you
can see a clear connection between serial number digits and the N-numbers.
For example, my plane is s/n 700037 (plane #37 manufactured in 1970) and
has
a registration of N9547V, indicating that they added "10" to the serial
number to make it the N-number. I have noted the same scheme at other
M-10s
and as far as I know this was done directly at the factory.
