I'm inclined to go with Glen on the engine issue. If you can find an
O-200 for a reasonable price, I'd suggest you go with it.

I fly with a very flat climb prop to get the best climb I can out of my
85 hp Coupe and that isn't any too much. Even my flat climb prop helped
a lot when I flew out to the west coast -- I was able to fly 2000-3000
ft. over the mountain PEAKS and RIDGES when I wanted to. It was fun
watching all the airliners lined up at 11,000 ft. as I flew over them at
12,400 over Salt Lake City airport.

With an O-200, I think you'll have a more effective cross country
airplane. A Coupe that can climb high can be extra effective on cross
country trips because you can stretch the fuel a lot, up high. (See
chapter 20 "Thin Air" in Stick and Rudder.) I would think that, at a
given airspeed your fuel consumption with the O-200 would be similar to
what it would be with a C-85. You can also easily get above the summer
thermals and fly in perfectly smooth air when down low you'd have been
bouncing around and getting queasy.

You won't go any faster with an O-200 than a C-85 with a cruise prop,
but you'll climb better. With an O-200, you WILL both climb better and
cruise faster than I can with my extreme climb prop C-85.

I haven't replaced my perfectly good C-85 for that added performance.
But if I were shopping on a clean slate, I'd try to get an O-200 as the
first choice.

It'll be interesting to see if someone will try to persuade us that a
C-85 is BETTER for some reason.
