King Schools sell a detector called Quantum Eye. Around $10.00 and lasts 18 months.
You are correct about including it in the scan though.
It attaches to the panel just like the Dead Stop so it can be put anywhere you want so its visible to you.
The good thing about our birds is that we can open the canopy to ventilate if necessary.
Not too many planes have that as an option.

When I last bought the "Dead Stop" things, they had a life-time in the
instructions of about 3 months. To expect them to work you would have to change
them periodically and I think many people may not do so.  You'd also have to
include looking at it as a regular part of your scan -- they're not idiot
lights that shine bring red when there's a problem -- you have to deliberately
look at the tab.

Yet having these is a good idea.  You may look at it and see a problem before
feeling anything or, if you feel ill during a flight, it can help you diagnose
why, perhaps even in time to get down safely.

I think Glen Ward's advice of taking the cabin heat muff off every fall to
inspect the exhaust pipe is a great idea and I've heard it from others over the
years.
