'Way back when, when battery cases were made of hard rubber, they were thick. Small plates resulted. Also, the chemistry is better these days.
Nowadays, with modern plastics, the cases are thinner and when you build a battery of the same (external) dimensions of a c.1955 25AH unit you get plates big enough to give you 35AH. I'd enjoy the extra 10AH, especially when the landing light is on.
