Ron,

Logbooks are no real problem, as long as you have a current one that
shows the current status of the last annual. Lost logs are valuable, but
not critical to airworthiness. However, your airworthiness certificate
should be kept in the airplane at all times, and if that's gone, you are
grounded. You will have to go to the FAA and have a new airworthiness
cert issued, which should involve showing them your current logbook and 
current registration paperwork.
