Georgia:    I am very glad that you got the IFR experience. The lesson 
learned should be to always keep an eye on the weather. Now you know why
the 
airline captains make the big bucks to keep those airplanes going to their

destinations in spite of the weather.
If you think your adrenaline was high, think about the pilots flying over
the 
ocean in the middle of the night, finding and landing on the carrier
without 
any electronic navigation aids. We practiced this when I was a fledging
naval 
aviator almost 40 years ago. We were given a lat/long where the carrier
would 
be in 3 hours, and then would fly a mission using a plotting board to keep

track of the aircraft and carrier position. There would be one red light
on 
the top of the carrier mast for you to find when you returned 3 hours
later. 
I can still remember my heartbeat sounding like thunder, as I would look 
outside searching for the red light in the black of night.
