Bob,

I think you've hit on THE #1 rule for safe flying. Choose to never fly
into the bad stuff and make the effort
to BE SURE you'll never have to.

I agree with the "if you have to go somewhere and you have to get there on
time ..." comment.  It's kept me
from making several trips mostly because I couldn't guarantee the return
trip weather.

The trips I have made (after making arrangements to take get-home-itis out
of the problem) I've had excellent
success at getting home on-time.  I left some extra time in the schedule
and was willing to detour a state or
two SIDEWAYS to go around bad stuff.
