*****Tell them that 'tailwheels' are for newbies. In the olden days we
only had a 'tailskid' on the back.
(ie, my little Bipe.)
There's a bumpersticker available that says. "Real Aviators Fly
Taildraggers". This could be true as
long as they don't stay with the 'Model T' era, and learn to fly a modern
aircraft also.
They both have their advantages...Take 'Ground Loops' for example,
that's much easier to do in a
taildragger and nearly impossible in a trike. Then there is all the
practice you get doing "S-turns" on
the ground in a taildragger so you don't run into something or someone
because they were hidden beneith
the nose and you couldn't see them. Yep, there sure are some advantages of
the model T over the newer
jobs.
That's one of the many reasons I like my coupe so much, it's from the
model T era but has so many of
the modern conveniences and safety features. The best of both worlds, so
to speak.

surprise to me.

*****Georgia, don't be surprised at anything you hear from pilots. Didn't
you know that we're all set in
our ways and not about to change them?
For example, I 'KNOW' that a yellow airplane is safer than any other
color and I can give you at least
a thousand reasons why. (Go out in the middle of your redwoods and start
counting). Anywhere I go down in
the middle of that thousand trees, Yellow will be the easiest color to
spot from the air.(And you'll never
convince me otherwise) Welcome to the club! : - )
