advice in this forum.]----

I know at least one of you Coupers is an airline pilot, are there
others (or in training to become one??)

An EAA friend of mine just started working for the airlines about 2
years ago and she just *loves* it. She knows how much I love flying
and is "encouraging" me to look into it since I'm still fairly young
and already have a 4-year degree and a good start in flying (about
200
hours, most of it XC). She says airlines are *really* looking for
pilots and are hiring much lower-time pilots and paying more than
ever
     before.

So, should I bite the bullet and start working on my ratings? If I
get my instrument, commercial, CFI, and multi about how long would I
have to instruct/charter (while keeping my current job) to get a
decent paying airline job (so I can still pay the mortgage and keep
the family fed)? If I do get my ratings I think I'll spend the extra

coin and go through a local Cessna Pilot Center which is really
active
and looking for instructors (especially ones they can train up
themselves.) They also will be doing charter here shortly.

The only downside is that to afford the ratings I would have to sell
my Coupe (as soon as I finish my 4-place experimental) since owning
two planes would be a little too much for the wallet (and my
homebuilt
would be cheaper to maintain and more "family" friendly for trips to
     the in-laws.)

So what do all you commercial pilots say, worth it??
