By all means get a 2nd opinion as Bob suggests. QUICK.
SOMETHING seems very amiss here from the sound of things.

DO NOT throw away your old fuel valve just yet, either.
ALL these types of fuel valves leak UNLESS they are GREASED REGULARLY.
Nature of the beast. Dissasembly is required for servicing.

There is a SPECIAL FUEL VALVE GREASE that is designed for fuel valves 
sitting on most ANY COMPETENT mechanic's bench..... especially if they
do annuals on Mooneys. It's part of their 100 hour/annuals. <g>
This special grease is totally unaffected by gasoline !! 
Yucky, but fascinating stuff.

Hang tough.
Please get that 2nd opinion.
