That sounds about right, is that about 65% power?

When I was teaching, I just had the students use 6 gal/hour
for the entire flight, starting at the runup area.  It worked out 
to be pretty conservative, since the thing only burns
6 gal/hour at a climb power setting (maybe a bit over that).

Other instructors would have them figure the climb fuel used,
and the cruise fuel used for the specific power setting, but that
gets complicated.  If they just assume 6 gal/hour, then they know 
they can fly for a certain time.  Then they write the takeoff 
time down, and decide what time they have to land by.  

That's the way I do it on cross countries because I'm too lazy 
to do any calculations.  I just figure I need to be on the 
ground three hours after I takeoff.  That's 18 gallons, and the
gas in the header is my 1/2 hour reserve.
