Maynard,
Have you manually checked the valve travel? What I'm wondering is if
in fact you have a sticky valve. Could it not be caused by a bad cam
lobe,
or bent push rod? Is there a position that the valve hangs up in when
manually pulling the engine through? If so couldn't the valve stem be
bent? I'm not an airplane engine mechanic but have seen these things many
times in high-performance car engines.
