Putting the alternator on can be done for any engine you are just using
the
existing 337 as a guideline any reasonable FAA inspector will sign it off
as a
field approval.  I've gotten about 1000 accepted in the last 30 years and
have
virtually never not been able to get something approved one way or
another.
You just have to put it in a form they will easily accept.  You are moving
from the known to the unknown and need only put out a reasonable path for
them
to follow.  In each office there are some that are easier to work with and
some will like the coupe and some won't.  Your mechanic can usually pick
the
right one of several to send the 337 form to as he is assigned to one
principal inspector as an IA.  If you don't like yours youi get another as
we
tend to have them for many years./thomas
