So I got rid of some of the errors by making a sum link to libnss_db.so.2
Generally, creating random links, or making random changes when you do not understand the nature of the underlying problem is not likely to bring any positive results.
on my system, and taking out the db for services in /etc/nsswitch.confStill get open("/usr/share/libmysqlclient/charsets/Index", O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
This may or may not be a problem. Programs often try to open files, in case they exist, but their absence does not indicate any problem.
and [pid 11747] connect(7, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock"}, 110) = 0[pid 11747] fcntl64(7, F_SETFL, O_RDWR) = 0[pid 11747] setsockopt(7, SOL_IP, IP_TOS, [8], 4) = -1 EOPNOTSUPP (Operation not supported) now /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock is a symbolic link to /tmp/mysql.sock will that cause problems?
Nope. The above does not indicate a problem, either, for the same reasons.
