I got a working install of Postfix and a Courier IMAP server running.
The default Maildir Postfix created didn't have any directories (such as
Sent, Trash, etc..), so I created them using Evolution. The folders all
appeared as subfolders under Inbox.

I looked into the issue and it appears that it most likely has to do
with my mail client getting incorrect IMAP namespaces from my server. So
I loaded up kmail and added the account. Kmail allows me to see exactly
what namespaces my server is sending back. Kmail says that my server is
sending these namespaces:

Personal: INBOX.
Other Users:
Shared: #shared.,shared.

So, it appears that it is sending back the correct namespaces. In the
actual directory where my mail gets stored there are folders called
.Sent and .Trash. However, no matter how hard I try, I can't get them to
show up on the same level.

I've tried editing the namespace to inbox. "INBOX." and "inbox." None of
them seem to work. KMail doesn't seem to update at all. When I force
Thunderbird to use "INBOX." (complete with the quotes) I don't see any
of my additional folders at all.

As I was typing this, I tried one more configuration with Kmail. I added
my IMAP account and forced kmail to use inbox. as the personal
namespace. I was able to see all my folders at the same level as Inbox,
but none of the folders have any items, even though I know there are
some. This doesn't work in Thunderbird.

Also a note. I installed Roundcube webmail to my server. It shows all
the directories on the same level, but I'm guessing it's probably just
figured it out, whereas my mail clients can't.

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Johann MacDonagh
