Try moving the 'T' marked message from cur to new and rename it to not
have the appended 'T'. If NS4.78 can read it troublefree (which is done
through the imapserver), your problem lies with your MTA, ie exim.
You could then try setting up some other MTA to test whether mails can
be delivered troublefree.
